From the Mariana Trench to the blood of polar bears, the presence of persistent and mobile chemicals is threatening global public health, and various national and international initiatives have been developed to lessen their impact on society and the environment. However, this is no easy task, since these “forever chemicals” can remain in our drinking water even after purification, making their expansiveness very difficult to control. Therefore, over 60 researchers from 15 European institutes joined forces under the ZeroPM project to Prevent, Prioritize and Remove persistent and mobile chemicals from our water.
The first episode of the third season of TOXstreams will dive deep into the labor of the ZeroPM project. Matteo Piumatti will welcome guests Hans Peter Arp, Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Oslo and ZeroPM coordinator; and Dr Sarah Hale, Researcher at the TZW – DVGW-Technologiezentrum Wasser in Forschen, Beraten, Prüfen.
They will discuss how the ZeroPM project came to be, the three main pillars of the project (Prevention, Prioritization, and Removal), what it is like to work on environmental toxicology, and what are the challenges of communicating about the environment.
